Kelantan Batik as a Gift: What to Give and How to Order It

Batik is a common gift in Malaysia for Hari Raya, weddings, retirements and thank-yous. The usual mistake is not the pattern but the size: a shirt that is too tight, or a length of cloth that never gets made up because the recipient has no tailor. Fabric or finished clothing: start with size
The first question is whether you know the recipient's size.
If you are not sure, give fabric by length. The recipient takes it to a tailor and has it made to fit. D'Rose sells a 2.5 metre shirt length, enough for one man's shirt, in hand-drawn cotton satin (batik tulis), block-printed cotton satin (batik cap) and crepe silk.
If you do know the size, a finished shirt is easier because it can be worn straight away. D'Rose men's cotton shirts come in two ranges:

For someone who sews: a 4 metre length
Four metres is the usual length for a baju kurung, the Malay woman's long tunic and skirt. For a recipient who sews, or who has a regular tailor, it leaves the choice of cut open: kurung, kebaya (a fitted blouse worn over a wrap skirt) or jubah (a full-length robe).
